Struisbaai Fisherman's Cottage

Our seaside cottage is situated in Struisbaai near the southern tip of Africa in a delightful estate styled on the traditional fisherman's cottages of the area. The main cottage has a main bedroom with en-suite, second bedroom, separate bathroom and open plan living area/kitchen with a large open hearth for indoor braaiing or a warm fire in winter. There is a separate guest cottage with its own en-suite bathroom. The quaint private courtyard garden has a braai area and a small grass patch. We use the double garage to store all our beach toys and this will NOT be available for your use. We use the cottage as a weekend getaway and spend most school holidays there as well. The beautiful 15 km long sandy beach is accessed via a 200m walk to the boardwalks that link the estate to the beach. We have all learned to surf here with the help of Robbie, the local surf instructor. There are also some nice surf breaks along the stretch of coast. Struisbaai bay is popular among stand-up paddlers and surf skiers. When the onshore wind blows it is ideal for kite-surfing. Kitesurfing lessons are available for those wishing to try out the sport. There are many nearby restaurants and eateries and fresh fish can be bought from the famous Struisbaai harbor. Struisbaai is also known as a fisherman's paradise and Awesome Charters offers trips if you want to do some deep sea fishing. Whales are prominent in the bay around August and September and our frequent sightings led us to name our cottage "A Whale's Tail"! The Cape Agulhas nature reserve and de Mond nature reserves are short drives away. So too are a number of excellent wine farms such as The Black Oystercatcher, The Berrio, Strandveld Vineyards and Jean Daneel Wines in Napier. An on-site rental agency provides cleaning services should you need it. The kitchen has a dishwasher so we typically will spend a weekend at the house and then get it cleaned after we have left to be ready for the next wonderful getaway.
